White Threads FlossTube #48 – Fashioning Fashion book review

Today I review the book “Fashioning Fashion”, which is a gorgeous book showing beautiful clothes from LACMA’s incredible fashion collection. I do a flick through so you can see what’s in the book, and also show some details that particularly caught my eye.

White Threads FlossTube #47 – Mountmellick Wildflower Cushion

Today I show you one of my Mountmellick cushions, which is available as a kit. It’s the Mountmellick Wildflower Cushion, and I explain about the stitches used, the knitted fringe, and what you’ll get in the kit. A kit is a great way to try Mountmellick embroidery as it comes with most of the supplies you’ll need to make the cushion. (Does not include metal knitting needles, cushion insert or zip.)

White Threads FlossTube #45 – how to use a plastic hoop correctly

Some people would say that the correct way to use a plastic hoop is to throw it in the bin (trash). I would concur, but I also understand that that’s what some of you have to use, and that’s what fits your budget. Therefore, you need to know that there is a right way and a wrong way to mount your fabric in a plastic hoop. In this tutorial I demonstrate how to mount your fabric the right way and why it is important to do it that way.

I also explain why I prefer wooden hoops over plastic ones. Oh, and there’s also a discussion of PDF patterns.

White Threads FlossTube #44 – Smøyg cushion

In this episode of White Threads FlossTube, Yvette shows you the cushion from her book “Smøyg: Pattern Darning from Norway”. Smøyg is Norwegian pattern darning, and pattern darning is just running stitch, so it isn’t difficult. The cushion features a design based on the babies’ wraps of Setesdal in the south of Norway.

White Threads FlossTube #42 – Reverse chain stitch demonstration

Today Yvette shows you a demonstration of reverse chain stitch. Reverse chain stitch can be used in any situation where regular chain stitch is specified. It produces more accurate stitch placement, that can look plumper, and is advantageous when using a rigid thread such as goldwork threads.

She also sheds light on the mystery of the little birds on the Ethiopian crosses from the previous video.

White Threads FlossTube #39 – Flick-through previews of Yvette’s books

I realise that many of you buy my books online or order them from your favourite needlework store, having never really seen what’s inside them, unless you’ve seen a friend’s copy. That’s quite a leap of faith! Today I’m going to give you a flick-through preview of all my books, so that you can see what’s inside them. You won’t see every page, because of the way pages flick, but you’ll see a good enough amount. I also point out the main features of each book. If you’ve been wondering about purchasing one of my books, this video should give you the confidence to do so.

If you’re a shop owner who has been wondering whether to stock my books, or maybe you already do, but you’d like your staff to become more acquainted with them, this video will help you and them to know the main features of the book, so that you can guide your customers to the best book for them. You’re very welcome to share this video on your social media to advertise my books to your customers, and so increase your sales.

This video is divided into chapters so that you can easily find your way to a specific part of the video, once you’ve watched it the whole way through.
