FiberTalk chat with me, no 4

I recently had a chat with Gary and Beth at Fiber Talk. It was a chat that had been held over a long time because of my illness, so it was great to finally talk with them again! We talked about my most recent book, about online classes and about Hardanger in general.

Have […]

Merry Christmas!

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all my followers, readers and fans for their support this past year. While it hasn’t been the easiest of years, it has been so lovely to see the enthusiasm with which my latest book, “Hardanger Filling Stitches”, has been received.

Thank you all for your encouragement of […]

Embroidery and AI

Today’s post comes about because of someone else’s blog post on AI and embroidery. The author has said she wants more people to read it, and I am linking to it here as I also want people to read it. https://lolliandgrace.com/blogs/blog/artificial-intelligence-in-the-embroidery-space

The author, Anne Oliver, lists a number of things that you can look for […]

Health update

Last November, I got sick. It felt a bit like Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (I’ve had it before) but also a bit different.

Doctors checked for many things and treated some. After many months I was well enough to regularly drive 1 1/4 hours to the closest Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner for treatment. (Western medicine […]

Jardin de Fleurs samplers restocked

Some years ago, I was asked to teach an embroidery stitch sampler class. I didn’t want to design your stock-standard sampler, so this is what I created: the Jardin de Fleurs cushions. There are about 30 different stitches on this design, and extensive step-by-step instructions for all of them are included with the pattern.

A visit to The Crewel Gobelin

Earlier this week I had to go to Sydney and while I was there, I took the opportunity to The Crewel Gobelin to get some thread. I always love visiting The Crewel Gobelin, because it always looks lovely and they always have wonderful new stuff to tempt me.

I used to work there […]

A trip to Paris

With the Paris Olympics on, I think back to the time (2018) I invited my twin sister Prue Scott who was living in Germany at the time, to visit l’Aiguille en Fête in Paris with me. We met up with Anne Nicolas-Whitney of Et Brode le Papillon. Prue and I also enjoyed other needleworky touristy […]

Are you friends with finishing?

Organza Hardanger Ornament

Following on from my question the other day about projects in my books that you like to make, I’m interested to know about finishing. Most people indicated that the things they like to make are small things like needlecases, bookmarks, scissor fobs, biscornus and Christmas decorations (all of which I […]

My formal qualifications

studying historical needlework samples

For some people, qualifications are very important. So as a needlework teacher and author of needlework books, what are my formal qualifications?

My training is in design. I have a Bachelor of Design in Visual Communication, and it helped me learn to think, problem solve and therefore be creative. […]

needle problems

Last year in New Zealand, I taught some Mountmellick embroidery classes. Mountmellick thread is very different to other threads: it is thick, has a number of strands though is non-divisible, and is completely matte. For those who are used to stitching with, say, a single strand of cotton floss, it is a very different […]
