White Threads FlossTube #65 – Frisian Whitework needlecase

In this episode of White Threads FlossTube, I show and talk about the needlecase project in my upcoming book “Frisian Whitework: Dutch Embroidery from Friesland”. It’s a pretty project featuring more lovely Dutch Heritage fabrics, worked in white linen thread on white linen fabric. The embroidery band on the needlecase is in the style of that which would have been found on early men’s shirt collars.

White Threads FlossTube #64 – Monogram Cushion

In today’s White Threads FlossTube video, I talk about www.stitchpalettes.com website and how it could be incredibly useful for embroiderers, and introduce the Monogram Cushion from “Frisian Whitework: Dutch Embroidery from Friesland”.

Episode notes:
www.stitchpalettes.com – useful if you don’t think you’re any good at choosing colours for your embroidery. Not so useful for whitework because white is basically white!

White Threads FlossTube #63 – Frisian Whitework has gone to the printer!

In the last few days I finally sent my next book “Frisian Whitework: Dutch Embroidery from Friesland” to the printer! It is such a relief to have finally done this. In this video, I take the opportunity to show you a project from the book: Frisian Whitework strawberries.

I also have an update on what’s next, travel difficulties, and fabric supply difficulties due to coronavirus.

White Threads FlossTube #62 – Is the making enough?

When you do embroidery, are you always wondering what you can do with it once it is finished? Will you frame it? Will you make it into a cushion or pillow? Will you make it into a needlecase? Can it just be hemmed and left as is?

OR, is the making enough? Does it need to be made into anything? This is what I ponder in today’s video. I’d love to know what you think.

White Threads FlossTube #61 – Embroidered pendants

As you know, I think embroiderers should wear embroidery. One easy way to do this is with embroidered pendants. For those who are time poor, or would simply like an Yvette Stanton original creation, I am making available some embroidered pendants that I have embroidered while relaxing.

Of course, I also still have my pendant tray kits, and embroidered pendant kits so that you can make your own with your own design, or make your own with my design.

In today’s White Threads FlossTube video, I show you some of the designs I have available for you to purchase.

They come neatly packaged, ready to give as a gift.

White Threads FlossTube #60 – Counted fabric 101

Today I explore fabrics for counted thread work. I show samples of aida cloth, so-called Hardanger fabric, so-called evenweave fabric, and linen fabric. This topic arose from me wanting to explain yet again what evenweave fabric means, and what it does not mean, and realising there was more that could be helpful to explain.

White Threads FlossTube #59 – Five people who have influenced my career

Following on from White Threads FlossTube #58 in which I talked about five books that changed my life, today I talk about five people who have influenced my career. There are more to come in a future video – I can’t stop at just five!

White Threads Floss Tube #58 – Five books that have changed my life

Today on White Threads Floss Tube I tell you about five books that have changed my life. The idea for this came from a friend’s Facebook post, where he wrote about five books that have changed his life. Now, he’s a theologian, so his selection is likely rather different to mine, with most of mine being needlework books!

White Threads Floss Tube #57 – Smøyg scissor keep

Today I show you one of the smallest projects from my book “Smøyg: Pattern Darning from Norway” – the scissor keep. This is a great first project, to learn the basic techniques and try out something new. You also end up with a really pretty but practical scissor keep in which you can store needles and pins safely. It would make a beautiful gift for yourself or someone else special.

This project has a supplies pack available, to be used in conjunction with the instructions in the book.
