White Threads Floss Tube #74 – pre-ordering, Fiber Talk and more

As we finished our series on the projects in “Frisian Whitework” last episode of White Threads FlossTube, today I’m just having a chat to catch up on a few things, namely:
– “Frisian Whitework: Dutch Embroidery from Friesland” is now up for pre-order on my website!
– please support small business when ordering your copy, rather than the big multinationals
– Fiber Talk has done another podcast interview with me, which went up today
– why my book will be in English language only for now
– some recent reasons why I’m proud of my family, who I rarely talk about!

If you are reading this in an email, you can see the video at https://youtu.be/1FagIHAQt2w

Frisian Whitework available to pre-order

I’ve been telling you that I’ve been working to update my website before I put Frisian Whitework: Dutch Embroidery from Friesland up for pre-ordering. Well, today I realised it was taking too long, and I’ve just put it up on the existing website! I’m still working on the new website, but now I can take my time to get it right AND you can pre-order!

Frisian Whitework

You can find it at http://vettycreations.com.au/frisian-whitework.html. The book will be posted when it arrives from the printer in late April or early May. I’m sorry it’s taken me so long to get it onto the website for you, however I’m so grateful for the enthusiasm people have for it!

The book has 168 pages and 3 pattern sheets. There are 10 beautiful projects, lots of photos and discussion of historical works, and step-by-step stitch instructions for both left-handers and right-handers. I really hope that you will love this style of embroidery as much as I do!

Today’s episode of White Threads FlossTube features the last of the projects in my forthcoming book, “Frisian Whitework: Dutch Embroidery from Friesland”, which is the Silk Sampler.

To wrap up the series featuring the projects, we take another quick look at all of them. Which one do you love the most? Which one will you stitch first?

White Threads Floss Tube #72 – Frisian Whitework rectangular pendant

I’ve recently started a Whitework Embroidery Facebook group. All the details are explained, in case you’d like to join it too.

In this video I introduce you to the Frisian Whitework rectangular pendant from my forthcoming book, “Frisian Whitework: Dutch Embroidery from Friesland”. This one is a bit of a challenge, given the count of fabric it is worked on. However, if you like the design but could never work anything that fine, the design could be scaled up to a lower count of fabric, with a suitable thickness of thread and made into something else.

White Threads FlossTube #71 – Frisian Whitework runner

Today I introduce you to the Frisian Whitework runner from my forthcoming book, “Frisian Whitework: Dutch Embroidery from Friesland”. It’s a very adaptable design that you’ll easily be able to use.

I also show and talk about two of the Dutch Heritage fabrics that I’ve used for projects in the book.

The printer’s proofs of the book have a cameo in this episode, which you may find interesting if you’ve never seen such things before.

I tell you about two fabulous upcoming textile exhibitions in Europe that I’d love to visit, and won’t be able to, but maybe you can!

White Threads FlossTube #70 – Frisian Whitework Square Cushion

Today I talk about the value of subscribing to both my White Threads FlossTube channel and my White Threads Blog, in the light of recent changes on Facebook in Australia, which could very easily be repeated elsewhere.

I also introduce the Square Cushion, which is the next project I’m featuring from my forthcoming book “Frisian Whitework: Dutch Embroidery from Friesland”. This elegant cushion has a band of embroidery down the front, and is an example of how any cushion can be decorated with a band of embroidery; Frisian or otherwise. I also give a tip on choosing the correct size cushion insert so you get a lovely plump cushion.

White Threads FlossTube #69 – Frisian Whitework Round Pendant

I am currently in the middle of a series of videos introducing the projects from my forthcoming book, “Frisian Whitework: Dutch Embroidery from Friesland”. Today’s project is the Round Pendant. As you probably know by now, I love making and wearing embroidered pendants. This one features very fine Frisian whitework embroidery.

Following a question from a friend about what music is best to embroider by (“Words or no words?” My answer was, “It depends…”) I also ask what you like to do while you’re embroidering.

White Threads FlossTube #68 – Frisian Whitework sampler

In this episode of White Threads FlossTube I show and talk about the Whitework sampler from my forthcoming book “Frisian Whitework: Dutch Embroidery from Friesland”. This sampler is my favourite project in the book. There’s just so much in it, and so much to love in it. Because there are so many different motifs and so many different stitches, you really get to explore the Frisian whitework style.

White Thread FlossTube #67 – covered button tutorial

In this episode of White Threads FlossTube, I show you how to make the covered button that was used on the edge of the needlecase in my upcoming book “Frisian Whitework: Dutch Embroidery from Friesland”. For this style of covered button you do not need a special covered button form. You can just use a carefully chosen regular button to cover.

While I did explain how to do this using just words in White Threads FlossTube #65 which introduced the needlecase, some people are not aural learners, but learn better by seeing. If you’re that person, then this tutorial is particularly for you!

White Threads FlossTube #66 – biscornu and all the white threads…

In this episode of White Threads FlossTube, I show and talk about the biscornu project in my upcoming book “Frisian Whitework: Dutch Embroidery from Friesland”. It’s a pretty project featuring more lovely Dutch Heritage fabrics, worked in white linen thread on white linen fabric.

I had a request from one of my viewers for me to talk about the threads that are shown in my FlossTube video opening screen. The section shown is actually a small part of a much larger photo of a whole heap of white or nearly white threads. In this video I go through each of those threads and talk about them, what I’ve used them for, and how you could use them.
