Stitches in class sample

Well, you’re not a very adventurous group, are you? I only had one response to asking if anyone could guess the five stitches in my Playing with Unusual Stitches class that I’ll be teaching tonight! Rachel suggested “Spiral Trellis and Palestrina stitch, maybe Herringbone? And Braid stitch”. Not bad, Rachel.

The five stitches are:

hoops, Portuguese whitework and bullions

I took my Portuguese whitework with me to Singleton, to work on the rather long train trip. During the class, I was talking with the ladies about good hoops for Mountmellick embroidery, and explained that deep hoops such as mine are really good for Mountmellick because they have more wood to grip onto the fabric […]

Mountmellick solace

This is the Mountmellick doily I’ve been working on over the last few days. It was a lovely project to work and really helped my emotional wellbeing. If you didn’t read the comments from yesterday’s post, please do take a look at Lakaribane’s blog post, about her experience of healing from sewing following the devastating […]

stitching happiness

Yesterday I spent the day stitching a new Mountmellick design for some classes later this year. I had a lovely time doing it, and realised how grateful I was to have a job that I love so much. I was having a chat recently with someone just before I was due to teach a class. […]

Portuguese whitework in Brisbane

Back from an excellent weekend in Brisbane last night. I’d been at AllThreads Embroidery teaching Portuguese whitework on Saturday and yesterday. We had so much fun!

We started off the class with me showing the photos I took of the embroidery and the town in comes from in Portugal, from my visit there in 2009. […]

merezhka and mountmellick

I had a wonderful day yesterday teaching merezhka to a lovely group of ladies in Springwood. They did a great job and produced some beautiful embroidery.

A couple of the ladies in the group had already bought my book Ukrainian Drawn Thread Embroidery and worked the large scale sampler (we were doing a project of […]

a day of merezhka

Today I’m off to Springwood to teach a merezhka class all day. It should be a great day. Springwood is about 1 1/2-2 hours on the train from where I live, so I’m taking my latest Mountmellick embroidery project with me, and hopefully I will get a lot done!

In the class we’re going to […]

something all embroidery teachers need

Yesterday I received an order of The Left-Handed Embroiderer’s Companion from a lovely lady who told me about the circumstances that resulted in her purchasing the book:

Last year I attended a course at [a patchwork shop], to do with hand-appliquéing designs. There were 3 left-handers out of 12 participants, and one had your book […]

What’s in store this year

This year I have some things planned for Vetty Creations. Of course I acknowledge that my best made plans may not eventuate (who would have planned to have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome a few years ago?) as other things may get in the way, but its good to have some plans and goals.

This year I’ll […]
