Books to the Pacific islands

Yesterday I met some a couple who work in prisons on a Pacific island, helping to rehabilitate the male and female prisoners (different prisons) so that they can go back to their communities on release, and start afresh. Their work is having great results, which is an encouraging thing to hear.

I learned that the […]

Mountmellick again

I spent yesterday almost entirely working on a Mountmellick project for The Cruise (of which I cannot yet tell you any more). It was quite lovely to spend the day doing that. It feels like quite some time since I have done a new Mountmellick project!

Its been lovely to be playing with stitch combinations […]

Treasure Chest hardanger project

On Friday I received my copy of the latest issue of “Inspirations” magazine. In it I have a new Hardanger project published. The project was a collaboration between me and Janie Hubble.

At the Sydney Craft and Quilt Fair last year I found some lovely scrummy Cottage Garden Threads colours and felt that I just […]

proud mum again

I told you that I probably wouldn’t post this week, however, for Christmas I received a particularly special gift.

Because I have only just gotten my drivers licence, for the whole of last term, I was taking Rainbow Girl to gymnastics on the train each gym day, and then coming home to Elder Daughter, […]

pretty balls of pearl cotton

I called my favourite local needlework shop yesterday to check whether they had the balls of DMC pearl cotton that I wanted. As they did, and it was a rainy day I decided to catch bus to the train station, rather than walking. I checked the bus timetable, and found that the bus would be […]

DMC and Presencia

Yesterday I got stuck into the last projects for the book – a set of hanging ornaments. I had some different colours to use, some of which were DMC and some were Presencia threads. Both were pearl 8.

The difference was quite pronounced. DMC is marginally thinner, and much more smooth. Presencia is marginally thicker […]

photographing cupcakes

I spent some time on the weekend taking more photographs of embroideries for “Portuguese Whitework”. I took delivery of the cupcakes I had ordered from a friend so that I could use them as props for one of my photos. They were absolutely gorgeous, and I was really pleased with how the resulting photo of […]

spongy mats for damp stretching

Just in case you haven’t been reading the comments from Friday’s post, I’m making this into a post of its own, because it contains Really Useful Information.

After showing you my damp stretching set up on Friday, Kathryn asked for a better description of “spongy mats” – a great question!

I have heard of people […]

damp stretching setup

I finally finished all the hemming yesterday.

I’ve now got the tablecloth soaking in a bucket so that I can carefully go around the whole thing and remove the wash out pencil marks. I’ve found that unfortunately, due to the density of the bullion stitches, the wash out pencil marks don’t simply disappear in […]
