In 2008, as I was recovering from serious illness, I worked an Elizabethan project with lots of plaited braid stitch on it. I learnt so much about the stitch from doing this, and was able to write comprehensive step-by-step instructions for my stitch dictionaries because of it. I did the border of a cartouche of Nefertiti in plaited braid stitch in pearl cotton. It’s a lovely stitch once you’re comfortable with it…!
