White Threads

app progress

I’m still working away on the app pictures – changing them from one format to another. It is slow going, but I am making some progress. That’s why I don’t have anything much to say, because nothing much interesting has been happening here!

As you know, we don’t have a TV, so I haven’t really seen anything much of the Olympics. I have seen little bits of the gymnastics from people’s videos that they have put up on the internet – those who were there at the arena and filmed it for real (meaning not just swiped it off the TV). Rainbow Girl has enjoyed those little bits that she has seen too.

As the Olympics have been going on, it has been interesting to see things from a different point of view. NEVER before have I ever watched the Olympics and thought to myself, “One day, that could be my daughter competing there.” But this time, I have. And let me tell you, it is rather strange! Who knows if she will ever get there or not, but she will certainly give it a try. She is an amazingly determined little girl!

It’s great to have a desire and focus. It will keep her physically healthy and her mind in good for her places. If she doesn’t make it, she will have learned alot about herself and will be able to deal with life having learned to deal with disappointment! I say three cheers for her and for her parents for supporting her in something about which she has passion!

Thanks Lynn. I agree with you. Even if she never makes it, it certainly won’t have been a wasted experience. And if she does make it, I will just continue to try not to act too surprised! (This is not the life I ever expected for one of MY children!)

I agree, there is nothing like sport to develop a child’s mind especially a discipline like gymnastics! And to have such focus at such a young age…marvelous. Even if she doesn’t make it to the Olympics, the lessons she will learn in the process will serve her well through out life. I have 2 kids, now 16 and 18, both into sport….football, basketball, athletics…keeps them out of a lot of trouble!

    All the best to her…!

We’ve been pleasantly surprised to find how genuinely nice the athletes are – bright, positive, as gracious in defeat as in victory. Even if she doesn’t make it all the way, mixing with such people will be a wonderful experience, and a great example to her.

Hi Rachel, it sounds like it has been a great experience for you! On the whole many Australians have been quite disgusted with particularly the Australian swimming team, because of their lack of graciousness in defeat. But then on the other hand, we’ve seen the lovely personalities of people like Sally Pearson and Steve Solomon (who finished last in his 400m final, but was thrilled anyway, and even thanked his mum for the kilos of washing she’s done for him over the years!). I do hope that our little athlete is a good sport…
