I thought you might like to see a photo of my much enjoyed Schwalm project. It is designed by Luzine Happel, and I am working it to test her left-handed instructions for it. It is extremely enjoyable to work, and oh, so pretty!

Beautiful Yvette! I’m saving up to get a copy of her book.
What fabric and thread did you choose?
Looks like the instructions must be well though out.
Blessings, Sharon
Hi Sharon, As part of the “test my instructions for me please” deal from Luzine, she actually sent me the fabric and thread. The fabric is 36 count evenweave linen, and the thread is coton a broder in a range of sizes.
Wow! It is beautiful. It makes me want to get back to work on my Schwalm project which I learned from Christine Bishop.
Antonia, I’m sure you have many lovely needlework projects already on the go, so yes, why not add your Schwalm project back into the mix?! 😉
I’ve been dying to ask you to show us some pictures…absolutely gorgeous!
Melanie, just ask! Don’t die wondering! 🙂
Looks gorgeous, thanks for sharing. May I ask what sort of marker you have used? Does it wash out easily? I’ve only ever used pencil
regards
Julie in Australia
Hi Julie, Great question! The way it is shown is the way it came to me. Luzine used an iron-on transfer pencil to put the pattern on the fabric. The idea of that scares me greatly! However, she sent me instructions for a method for removing the markings at the end, which involves soaping it up with a hard washing soap, soaking it about two days, boiling it, and it apparently does eventually become snowy white. Sounds dicey to me, but if it works for her, surely it should also work for me!
Beautiful! That method of removing the transfer pencil sounds scarey! BOIL IT! Eek!
Carol, the boiling doesn’t concern me terribly – we boil Mountmellick embroidery too. Its rather more sturdy than Schwalm though!
Cara Ivette,
Dear Yvette,
already purchased your book is wonderful Portuguese Whitework … …
and have already started to make a washcloth tray, based on his teaching …
About this embroidery above, and found it wonderful when you publish the book in view of what you did on the embroidery of Guimarães, I get it …
a big hug from Maria Philomena,
here from Portugal
Thank you for your kind comments on my Portuguese book, Maria Filomena. I am very glad that you like it! About the Schwalm embroidery, I am possibly misunderstanding you because of language translations. However, the Schwalm book that I am working from is by Luzine Happel, not me. I won’t be publishing it – I am just testing Luzine’s instructions for her. I apologise if I have misunderstood you, and have just told you something you already completely understand! Its a bit of a minefield when working with tools like Google Translate!
This is really beautiful, Yvette! Your stitching is perfect!
Is it in fact a complete book that Luzine is working on, or just this one pattern?
Hi Monica, it is just one pattern, but the instructions are a whole book, as Luzine is SO DETAILED in her instructions! Where I was up to in the project yesterday takes us up to about page 60 of the book. There are about 90 pages in all, which gives you some idea of how thorough Luzine is!
Yvette, quando é que teremos um livro seu com as técnicas maravilhosa desse bordado? Aguardo, Abraços, Algecira
O trabalho está muito bonito. Abraços, Algecira
It’s lovely, I’m not surprised you are enjoying it. And like you, I don’t imagine boiling it will cause any great problem – it was the only way most domestic fabrics were washed for centuries, and if it caused a problem, the decorative styles we have would not have been developed!
Beautiful! No wonder you are enjoying this Yvette.I agree with Rachel about boiling ,but soaking it for 2 days and hard washing soap scares me because lots of delicate pulled thread work are there, but am sure it’ll work out otherwise Luzine would have opted for a different method instead of sticking to this one, right?
Hi Algecira, I don’t plan on writing a book on Schwalm embroidery, because Luzine has already done some fabulous books on the technique! You can find her books at http://www.luzine-happel.de/
