An accomplishment

Ok, here’s something I bet you didn’t know about me: until very recently I did not have my driver’s license. Yesterday, however, I passed my driving test and am now licensed to drive by myself. Quite frankly the thought of that scares me! But I am now officially able to do it.

I just have never wanted to drive. I still don’t really want to, but with Rainbow Girl needing to get to gymnastics training a good number of days per week, it became necessary.

Here in Australia, we have a system where learner drivers have to accrue 120 hours of driving practice before they can take their driving test. Fortunately this changed a few years ago, so that drivers over 25 (which I am just *slightly* over) no longer have to do the 120 hours, just as many as they need to learn to drive well.

However, because I didn’t have to do the 120 hours of practice, I feel that I have cheated (I did not, though!) by not having to do it. I feel very inexperienced, and very much like I am not ready to drive by myself. However the driving tester obviously felt that I was good enough, or they wouldn’t have passed me.

So if you see me out on the road, give me a wave and a nice wide berth!

Congratulations on passing your driving test. I am well over 21 twice!, and have still not managed to brave learning to drive. I am sure Yvette, that you will become as confident and meticulous with driving as you are with embroidery.

Thank you, Susan. The tester yesterday said that he gets many “mature” people going for their licences, and most of them are women. Some are converting from overseas licences, but many like me are just doing it for the very first time. If you ever come to the point where it is the right time for you to learn, then I’ll be cheering you on!

Congratulations! Passing your driver’s test on the first try (I assume it was as you didn’t indicate differently) is an accomplishment. I hope you will be able to get some extra practice in so that you will be more comfortable behind the wheel.

Thank you Rhea! Yes, it was my first try. 🙂 I plan to get lots of extra practice with my husband in the car with me, before he returns to work after the school holidays. Gymnastics training continues throughout the holidays, so there’s lots of driving to be done!

Congratulations! I’m always very impressed when someone who has a life manages to fit in learning to drive, as opposed to doing it while still at school as most of us do!

Congratulations! I have been driving for many years but I still remember my first solo drive. I was very nervously driving through the center of town with a police car following me. I was convinced that I was doing everything wrong and they were cataloging my mistakes and preparing to pull me over. They weren’t, of course.

    Happy and safe motoring 🙂

    Congratulations!
I didn’t get my license until I was 22, and then only ended up driving for 7 years before I had to stop!
It’s so handy for getting places 🙂
