Writing a book blurb

Writing the blurb for the back of a book is an interesting challenge. You have to succinctly describe the contents of the book in such a way that it is irresistible to the reader! It is quite a challenge.

Following are some suggestions for the blurb for my new book “Portuguese Whitework”. I’d love your feedback, comments and suggestions for improvement. Which one grabs you most, and how can I improve upon it?

Thanks!

Hi Yvette, I’m going for this blurb because for me it reads very well and it works for me ….the only change I would make is to add in the name of the place in the North of Portugal…wish you all the best in making your final decision….look forward to seeing your new book when it comes out…..Linda

I like the fourth one too–but I’d change this sentence around a bit: “Packed with step-by-step instructions,you..” I don’t think you mean that the reader is packed with instructions. 🙂

How about “Packed with step-by-step instructions, the book includes a range of projects–large and small, for beginners through to advanced stitchers–which will provide readers with examples and practice pieces. You will learn all you need to know to design your own masterpieces and heirlooms.”

I like No 4, with “The projects are supported with in depth step-by-step technique instructions,so that all can learn this exquisite form of embroidery.” from No 1 added in at the end.

    Hi Yvette

I also like number 2. It grabs my attention, don’t be shy at promoting yourself!

Thanks very much Pam! I am not the sort to put myself forward, except in the case of promoting my books!

I like 1,2 and 4. Very hard to choose, but I like the inclusion of beginners to advanced and probably your description of the actual stitches.

Gosh, I always had thought that someone else wrote the blurb, not the author!!

    cheers

Thanks Julie! In my case I am also the “someone else” because I am the publisher of my books. 🙂
