White Threads

drawing exhibition

If you’re anything like me, you’ll possibly agree that William Morris is a hero. I have always admired the talents of the man, who was jack of all trades, and master of all of them! His work is amazingly beautiful, and I always find it inspiring.

I recently learned that the Art Gallery of NSW is having an exhibition entitled The Poetry of Drawing: Pre-Raphaelite Designs, Studies and Watercolours. The exhibition focuses mainly on the work of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, comprising Dante Gabriel Rossetti, John Everett Millais and William Holman Hunt, but some of William Morris’ works are also included.

According to the Art Gallery website, the exhibition “includes over 140 works–drawings, sketches, watercolours, illustrations and designs for textiles and stained glass”. It is showing until 4th September.

You can be assured that I will be visiting this exhibition during these school holidays!

It sounds wonderful – Morris created astonishing things in such a variety of media. Please tell us about the exhibition when you go!

Yvette, that sounds like a must see. Love William Morris designs. I watched a great drama series on ABC1 which centred around these characters [characters indeed if the ‘drama’ was to be believed………..LOL]. Hope you get to spend lots of time at the Exhibition. Cheers.

Wow – I hope I haven’t overplayed the William Morris bit! I’m not actually expecting there to be much WM stuff in the exhibition, probably just one or two pieces. He really was a bit peripheral to the Pre-Raphaelite movement – not a major player. But I’m sure the exhibition will be wonderful, regardless!

Ooo! I will be in Sydney on Tuesday evening – I have SIM orientation Wed-Thurs and am staying on till Sunday to spend time with my nephew (and his parents!). Might have to pop along – the whole exhibition sounds lovely, and I have a weakness for William Morris designs (I have WM coasters, an oven mitt and an apron – tacky but sooo pretty!).

Hope the orientation goes well! Say hello to everyone for me!
