Its getting colder here in Sydney, and feeling more wintery. For many of you though, our winter temperatures aren’t what you might think of as winter, but for us, they are cold!
I’ve been thinking that I’d like a beret, so when I saw some nice ones on special yesterday, I decide to buy a black one. And I don’t just see a plain black beret… I see so many possibilities for the embroidery that could go on it!
I have been thinking more and more about embroidering on clothing, as you will have probably noticed, due to my beaded dress and the felting/embroidery/clothing ideas. I just figure that its a great way to advertise my embroidery skills to the world, and feel good about what I am wearing when I do it!
I don’t know whether to just do embroidery on the “bottom” half of the beret (the bit that’s closest to my face) or all over. I actually think that I’d like to have it all over. If I could figure out a way to have lovely gold plaited braid stitch all over it, I would, but perhaps that would be going overboard. It would also be a bit of a problem if it got rained on…
Another idea is to applique shapes of lovely Colourstreams hand dyed felt. But then the question is what shapes?
So once again, the brain is running over with possibilities…

Go with the gold plaited braid stitch! It would look fabulous!
Yeah it would look pretty spectacular – I agree. But the problem is using metal thread. I don’t want to use proper gold thread as it wouldn’t react well to being rained on. I have some Kreinik Japan Thread No 7 sitting here on my desk in front of me, but the faux gold wound round the core is really wide compared to proper metallic thread, and therefore won’t curve so well.
I need to give it a try, but I’m sort of busy with other projects at the moment. I don’t want to launch into a purely personal project to the detriment of things I NEED to do!
So if the Japan thread doesn’t work, then I need to find something else, and this is not always easy…!
