White Threads

a project finished, a new project started

On Sunday I finished off my red and gold jacket. I’m so very pleased with it, and am looking forward to showing you photos when I have some of me in it! However, I’ve given you a sneak peak of the buttons at the waist.

Because it had taken up a lot of my time […]

inspiration and progress

Yesterday I spent much of my day designing tiny little pretty embroideries. They will be quick to do and make fantastic gifts.

The embroideries took on a life of their own and also formed themselves into something unexpected. Just like the motifs in “Portuguese Whitework: Bullion Embroidery from Guimarães” which as an after-thought formed […]

Beating Around the Bush 2014, Adelaide Australia

Well, the big news of the day is that the brochure for the 2014 Beating Around the Bush needlework conference in Adelaide has been released to those who had signed up for information via the Country Bumpkin website. I can’t find a direct link for the brochure on the Country Bumpkin website, but you could […]

Portuguese Whitework tablecloth pattern errata

I was recently notified that there was an error on the pattern chart for the tablecloth in Portuguese Whitework.

On the chart, some of the pink numbers which denote the count of threads are incorrect. Wherever it says 60 threads on the pattern, it should say 72. The written instructions within the book are correct. […]

needle size for Portuguese Whitework

Firstly, I believe that the Sydney region bush fires have made news around the world. I live in Sydney, but I’d like to assure you that I am fine, and the closest fire is about 50km away from us. We have prepared our home for bush fire, though I still have a little more to […]

Whitework biscornu class

In a few weekends’ time (28-29th September) I will be teaching a new project at A Stitch in Time in Hobart. I teach in Hobart once a year, each time doing something different. So far I have taught Mountmellick embroidery and Portuguese Whitework. I love teaching down there, as the students are always so lovely […]

Canberra class

Last weekend I spend the weekend in Canberra with a lovely group of women, teaching a Portuguese Whitework class for the ACT embroiderers’ guild. They were a delightful group of women, and highly accomplished stitchers. They made excellent progress with their hand towels, and worked to a very high standard. Thank you to everyone who […]

Quilting in the Highlands

This weekend (and Monday and Tuesday) I will be teaching at Berrima Patchwork’s Quilting in the Highlands Retreat at Mittagong. Mittagong is in the Southern Highlands, south of Sydney. At this time of year, it is COLD down there. (Well, cold for us, not for people who regularly have snowy winters!)

I’m planning to stay […]

Wollongong class today

Today I’m of to Wollongong to teach Portuguese Whitework to the guild group there. I’m sure we will have a lovely day sharing stitching and each other’s company.

We’ll be making the hanging ornaments from my book “Portuguese Whitework”. Not all five though – just one each!

I have some stitching with me to do […]

Spanish whitework

Thanks for the comments on the blog yesterday. It was interesting to see that everyone agreed with the article I linked to. You don’t have to agree, you know. 😉 I have seen other comments elsewhere where people definitely did not agree! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. It was lovely to read them.

Today’s post […]
