White Threads

another hemming day

Yesterday I finally completed a little square mat that’s been hanging around for ages. If you have been to any of my Portuguese Whitework classes or saw me at the Sydney Craft and Quilt show back in June, you’ll have seen it without a hem. Well, now it finally has a hem! I mitred the […]

handtowel under way

Yesterday I finally got started on my handtowel project for “Portuguese Whitework”. I suddenly decided that I wanted some suggestions from people on the size that people like their handtowels to be. I’ve previously done handtowels at about 40 x 50cm (16 x 20in), but wanted to know if people liked that size or something […]

bookmark complete!

It took less than 24 hours from go to whoa! The latest project for my book “Portuguese Whitework” is now complete; even the instructions are written.

I must say that I very much like these quick projects! Compared to nearly two years of *that* tablecloth, less than 24 hours is the way I like it!

dreaming of bullions

I feel like a lot of my dreaming time was filled with making bullions last night. Perhaps that reflects how many I have done recently? It reminds me of the nightmare I had when I sent my stitch dictionary off to the printers. I think that my day job is invading my sleep too much!

latest project going well

Last week I started a new project for the book: a sampler featuring 36 different bullion motifs. It is SO much fun! 36 different motifs – there’s never a dull moment! I am enjoying the fact that after spending months working on a tablecloth that had two main motifs worked millions of times over (ok, […]

drawn thread work base complete

I spent the last few days madly working on my new project for the book. It is a sampler which will have a large number of bullion stitch motifs on it. It will be an excellent reference piece because of all the different motifs featured on it.

Except that they’re not there yet! I did […]

new project

A little while ago we purchased a new iron as our old one had gone up in a puff of smoke. The one we purchased had a really bad design fault: the cord came out the bottom of the iron and interfered with the stability of the iron when it sat upright on the ironing […]

stretchy swirls

In my spare time (!) made another leotard on the weekend recently for the aspiring Olympian, Rainbow Girl. Because she’s now training several times a week, she needed another leotard. Being one for a challenge, I had wanted to do one with some swirly shaped appliques on it. Applique on stretch fabric in such a […]

Ornament exchange again?

Last year here at White Threads I organised a Christmas ornament exchange. I have been wondering about whether to run it again, as I’m not sure it was entirely successful last year. I just wasn’t sure that everyone received their ornaments. However, no-one let me know that they *didn’t* receive the one that was promised […]

Christina Hendricks’ beaded gown

With the Emmys on yesterday, there’s lots of pictures of beautiful red carpet gowns around the place today. But Christina Hendricks’ gown was interesting in that it featured amazing hand beading. It was made here in Sydney by an Australian designer, Johanna Johnson.

I found this article about the dress this morning, in the Sydney […]
