White Threads

busy, busy

Those who are eagerly awaiting my new book on Portuguese embroidery will be pleased to know that I have been really getting stuck into writing the stitch instructions for it.

I think I’d sort of been putting it off, feeling a little bit lost with what needed to be explained. However, with my class up […]

embroidery hoop love

Yesterday I finally got my gorgeous new embroidery hoops with stands up on my website. I wanted to really illustrate how versatile and useful they really are, so I took a series of photos ilustrating the different things that make them just a delight to work with.

NB: embroidery and hoop binding NOT included with […]

New-to-me thread

One of the delightful things about teaching at All Threads Embroidery in Brisbane is the fact that Kerryn has such an amazing range of products. In my humble opinion, her range is by far better than any needlework shop in Sydney. She had a few threads that I had never heard of before, including Cosmo […]

the pleasure of making

Recently, as you may have noticed, I’ve been enjoying making clothes. I’ve been enjoying planning and shopping for fabrics for those clothes. I’ve been enjoying designing and creating new embroideries for my new Portuguese whitework book and upcoming classes. I’ve been enjoying making food that fits with my own and others’ dietary/allergy requirements.

Now, if […]

a snatch of eavesdropping

This story was told to me possibly third hand, so I’m not completely sure of its accuracy, but its a good story anyway!

A family friend was recently at her local embroidery shop, just having a quiet browse. I know the shop in question, and its a lovely shop to have a quiet browse in! […]

Portuguese love

I’ve been steadily working on my next Portuguese embroidery for the book, and I know I say this all the time, but I am just loving it! It is one of the prettiest styles of embroidery that I have ever seen. It is just so appealing!

Everyone that I show the embroideries to, comments on […]

trying something blue

When I was studying at uni, for some reason it was requested/suggested that I have amongst my supplies a blue lead mechanical pencil. By mechanical pencil I mean those ones that you click and the lead pushes up through the middle. Because the lead is fine, you don’t get thick, heavy lines, and nor do […]

starting a new project

There’s something very satisfying about a piece of crisp white linen, just begging for some embroidery. Add to that a (reasonably) newly designed pattern, some soft white thread, and a needle, and you have a project made in heaven. So much potential!

I love starting new embroidery projects. Yesterday I started a new one for […]

random collection of thoughts

Yesterday was Australia Day here. We celebrated two birthdays with a lunch in the backyard in the sweltering heat. My dairy-free, gluten-free and egg-free cake worked well – rising, which was one of the most important aspects of it – and tasting great. A swim in the afternoon completed the day, then home for leftovers […]

tidier office

Yesterday I finally got to tidying my office. It had gotten to the stage where I couldn’t tell my daughters to clean their rooms without feeling like a hypocrite, so it had to be done! I walked past the room last night, glancing inside it, and shocked myself! It looks so different, and so much […]
