A grey day in Hobart

Today I’m in Hobart, ready to start a Mountmellick class at A Stitch in Time. I met Mary-Anne, the owner, for the first time yesterday and she is lovely. This will be a fun few days, I’m sure.

When I was at Springwood on Monday we were discussing my unusual and difficult stitches class that […]

home again

I’m back home again today, for a very short while before heading off to Hobart tomorrow for a Mountmellick class on Thursday and Friday. Yesterday’s class went very well, up at Springwood. It is lovely to introduce a new style of embroidery to people and have them “get” it.

The ladies really enjoyed themselves. I […]

kits for Mountmellick classes

I supply kits for my Mountmellick classes and I expect that all students will have one of these kits. I don’t consider them to be optional. There are good reasons why, and its nothing to do with me making a bit of extra money on supplying a kit. Its everything to do with making sure […]

Christina Hendricks’ beaded gown

With the Emmys on yesterday, there’s lots of pictures of beautiful red carpet gowns around the place today. But Christina Hendricks’ gown was interesting in that it featured amazing hand beading. It was made here in Sydney by an Australian designer, Johanna Johnson.

I found this article about the dress this morning, in the Sydney […]

meeting a reader

I have a very busy day today. I’ll be doing one thing that is completely new – I’ll be meeting up with one of my blog readers for coffee (or some other such drink, seeing I don’t actually drink coffee… or tea…!) But I am sure that we will have a lovely time together.

I […]

project complete

Yesterday I jumped on the bandwagon. I didn’t really ever expect to jump on it, but I did.

I made a biscornu.

Ok, that makes it sound like I’ve never made one before, but I admit that I did actually made a teeny tiny one for a friend for Christmas last year. But this is […]

not so well connected

I got some more accurate information on my famous “relatives” yesterday and learned that unfortunately, rather than being family, they were business associates. 🙁 Boo hiss…

But still, who knows what wonderful influence my very distant relatives may have gained from that association, that has been passed down a very long line to me? Well, […]

Embroidering pedigree

My sister has been working on our family tree for quite some time now. Rather than just trying to link names together, she’s been doing her best to learn about the people: who they were, what they did etc. Last night, my dad dropped a very interesting bombshell. Apparently she’s found that we’re related to […]

doing what you love

As I have been sitting here over the last week, stitching stitching stitching, I have reflected on how fortunate I am to have a job that I love doing so much. You sometimes hear wise people saying that you should never make your hobby into your job, because then it just becomes work.

My embroidery […]

cushion on the way

I apologise for the lack of post on Friday. I had nothing to say and a lot to do! I spent the weekend away with some of the women from my church and we had a lovely time together.

I took my embroidery with me, and finished off the cushion front for the Portuguese […]
