White Threads

photographing

I spent some of the last few days photographing embroideries for “Portuguese Whitework”. It has been going well, and is lovely to see the new photos going into place in the pages of the book. There is something quite delicious about seeing it all come together.

Anyway, mustn’t hang round here too long. I’m off to photograph in the back yard while the light of the day is still young.

What sort of camera do you use Yvette, your photos always look great. Do you choose sunny days?? I agree with how good it must feel as it all comes together, as whenever I take a photo and show it to others, it feels like such a great accomplishment!!

    Well done
    cheers

Hi Julie, I have a Pentax DSLR. I prefer overcast days, as the light is a better colour. However, lately I have been playing around with the White Balance settings on my new camera, and now whether it is sunlight or overcast is not so much of an issue. I do prefer lighting coming from one side though (rather than from directly above) as it makes the white stitches on the white fabric stand out more.

Good tips, thanks Yvette. I’ve done all mine inside (usually at night due to work) but I’ll try outside next time

    Thanks
    Julie

If you’re photographing at night, try using a daylight colour light bulb – around 6400 K. I usually do most of mine inside too, but with the blinds up and as much light coming in as possible. Its less windy inside!
