last week of school holidays

This is the last week of the school holidays here, and its going to be hot. It will be filled for us with last minute things to get done before school starts: dentist’s appointments, doctor’s appointments, and maybe a trip to the beach as my daughters really wanted to go some time during the holidays and it hasn’t happened yet!

And in between all that, I’ll be finishing off some embroideries, photographing them and sending the photos off to their destination for inclusion in a publication. There’s some Mountmellick (still to be finished), some Hardanger (half done – still some problem solving to be done there), and some other embroidery. Its been really fun doing it all.

I’ve got quite a few Mountmellick classes coming up this year too, so once school goes back next week, I think I’ll be getting on with preparing the class projects. And then I’ll get back to my book, which I’m so looking forward to seeing grow.

There’s also a few more garments that I want to make. I had a lovely chat with a friend at church yesterday who wants to explore button and fabric shops with me, so that should be fun. Maybe we’ll take a day trip one day and have an adventure.

Hi Yvette
I’m currently working on the Papillion Castles in the Air project. It’s a 24 part project and I get a new section to the project once a month. Whilst its regular counted cross stitch there are many new stitches that I’ve learnt whilst doing it. There is also an embroidery option.
I am also about to start making 18 inch doll clothes. I plan to dress a doll for my youngest granddaughter and present it to her for her 3rd birthday. I’m procrasting as to which doll I should buy. Should I buy American girl or the Australian doll which is 20 inches tall (Im aassured that I can adjust any 18 inch pattern to fit the doll. Any suggestions?
Im also knitting for winter – yep I’m crazy to be knitting in this heat.
And of course Im smocking, dressmaking, doing needlepoint and generally keeping myself more than I should be.
Any room in your car for the button/fabric outing?

Hi Renee, You’re busy! A 24 part project sounds huge, but I am glad that you are enjoying it and learning from it. As for dressing dolls – its something I’ve never done, so I can’t advise you there, sorry. Room in the car? I’m expecting to go on the train, and sorry, but its going to be just me and my friend. Afterwards I’ll report on where we go so that you can go to the same places too – especially if they’re new to you. 🙂

I borrowed the A-Z whitebook from the library, and saw some lovely mountmellick pieces!!! Of course I thought of you, and then read in the back that you were thanked for your pieces!!!! Lovely to see your work featured in there.
