Ruth Klein has sent me photos of her beautifully stitched Hardanger Filling Stitches sampler. I so love seeing what people have done with my design. Often they are personalised with colour or other variations to the original design, which I delight in seeing.
Thanks for sharing this with us, Ruth, and congratulations on such a lovely result!
If you’d like to make this design, the pattern and instructions can be found in my book, “Hardanger Filling Stitches”. I have supplies packs available with all that is needed to make the original cream on cream design. You can find them and the book on my website.

Isn’t that a triumph!
Yes, and I think all finishes of this sampler are a triumph! It’s a big project with a lot of learning on it!
That’s beautiful! I love the colors she chose!
Does the project really take 10 spools of thread?
Yes, it does take 10 spools of linen thread. (Some have found they use more – possibly depends on how much doing and undoing happens!) Do you think that 10 is a lot or a little?
I guess it isn’t really a lot, considering each spool is only 30-50m (compared to a 120m ball of coton perlè). I’m looking forward to starting on this sampler (I’m making myself finish a few other projects first).
That’s right. There is a lot less on those spools than a ball of perle. When using perle, 4 balls (2 of each size) is the amount needed.
