Dovo scissor sadness

Dovo Hardanger ScissorsI was in contact with Dovo in Germany yesterday to place an order, and learned some sad news. Earlier this year, Dovo was having some difficulty and they were restructured.

I learned yesterday that the shaving equipment part of the business was sold, but the scissors part was not. They have ceased production of their scissors, and unfortunately they have no more stock of the beautiful Dovo Hardanger scissors that we all love. I can’t get anymore, and I have sold all the ones I had. I was happy to learn that Anne, who I have always dealt with at Dovo and who was always so helpful, has her employment assured by the new owners.

It is such sad news about the scissors.

I do still stock some lovely stork scissors, which are great, but the Dovos were that much nicer (with a price to match!). You can find the stork scissors here: http://www.vettycreations.com.au/3_5in-stork-embroidery-scissors.html

I’ll now have to search for new scissors of the amazing quality of the Dovos. If you have other, non-Dovo scissors that you love for Hardanger and other forms of cutwork, please let me know about them, so that I can look into them. Thanks!

They will be hard to find as they were the first design to be dropped, but my left handed Dovos are just as thin as the Hardanger design at the tip. They don’t have that drastic ridge from thick to thin, which I don’t know how that would help when snipping threads. I have several lefty pairs and purchased the Hardanger scissors thinking they would be more useful in cut thread embroidery. I was so shocked and wished that I had not purchased the Hardanger style at all. Of course now I’m hoarding them all as I love my Dovos. This is so sad!

Yes, very sad. Treasure the ones you have.

Try Ernest and Wright in Sheffield. They do rather lovely scissors, too.

Yeah I heard the news over the summer. Jessica Grimm announced it and I put in an order for a pair of scissors. It’s quite sad that it took the news that they were shutting down to mobilize people to purchase. I never bought one before as I felt they were expensive. I really like my small Kai scissors for cutwork.
