White Threads FlossTube #46 – Portuguese Whitework runner

In today’s video I talk about and show you the Portuguese whitework runner from my book, “Portuguese Whitework: Bullion Embroidery from Guimarães”. I also discuss my dilemma for my next book – I can’t travel to do any research!

Even if the book on Lefkara lace has been written, it’s out of print and only available from second hand retailers for an exorbitant amount of money. An affordable guidebook with a modern charting style would be extremely welcome.

These are interesting thoughts, thanks Eve. It hadn’t occurred to me that it was out of print, seeing I purchased my own copy easily, when it was in print. Thanks.

The Lefkara lace book is still available new and in English for a reasonable price from a couple of booksellers in Cyprus, but nowhere else, and international shipping is nearly half the price of the book. Still far less expensive than those second-hand retailers (which may or may not actually have a copy to sell), though.

It would be lovely to have a new book with color photos and more information (such as specifics on fabric and thread, etc.). Even with the book in hand, I find that some of the techniques are still not completely clear to me. And as far as I know, there is no such thing as a printed pattern–yet (I’m working on making one now).

Thanks very much for that information, Sarah!
