Today’s White Threads FlossTube video has an explanation of thread twist, and how it relates to the teaching of left-handed students when right-handed teachers say “sit opposite me and mirror what I do”. Even if you’re not a teacher of embroidery (and maybe you are more than you realise), there is lots of interesting stuff in here about thread twist. This is possibly going to be a controversial video, and is a topic I’m really passionate about. I’d love to know what you think about it!

I’m right-handed, and I’ve always wondered about that “Just Mirror Me” instruction, not least because if I’ve ever tried to learn something from my left-handed mother, that doesn’t work! I’m so glad you wrote the book!
Ah, so you’ve experienced it the other way around, Rachel! Thanks for your thoughts. 🙂
Well this was unexpectedly helpful! I was watching this video this morning, and showed my teenage daughter how vehement you are about this. Her comment was “I think [cousin] is left-handed.” This was new and important information for me, because that particular niece of mine has gotten really into embroidery during this lockdown. I sent her a whole bunch of thread from my stash for her birthday, and she’s been watching videos to learn. So I texted my brother to ask him, and yep, she’s left-handed. I’ll be sending her a copy of this book so she can learn in comfort!
Thank you! You’re a lovely aunt!
