For those of you who do needleweaving in Hardanger or other forms of needlework, how do you tend to hold your fabric and insert your needle? Do you tend towards A, B or C, or something else? What feels most comfortable to you?
Thanks!

I’ve never really thought about it! I suppose I generally tend towards A, since that would let me do both halves of the weave without having to shift the fabric much. Either B or C would mean that I would have to turn the fabric significantly to take the next stitch.

Thanks Mary. That’s great to know. I think I tend more to B. I just angle my hand a little for the return stitch.
I’m a leftie, and I tend to work zig-zag rows left-to-right and go clockwise on fillings. I’m more likely to work C, using my right forefinger underneath as a fabric-thread tensioner, especially on small projects, but I’m quite happy to work on the slant, like you, whenever that is more convenient – which would be B (but flipped). Just to add to your confusion!
Thank you Sue – fantastic. I’m left-handed too – no confusion there. 🙂
I would use B, had to really think about it though and I’m still not 100% sure. I don’t have my stitching stuff handy to really check, however I definitely don’t do A or C :-). I’m right handed just in case it’s relevant.
Thanks Michelle. I use B mostly too.
