Did you think I’d fallen off the face of the earth? No, I’ve just been busy working on the book! This week I’ve been working on stitch instructions, photography and the cover of the book. I think the cover is nearly there, which is quite a relief!
Last week I went to a training day for people who exhibit with the company who runs the craft show that I exhibit at. They run a whole lot of different shows, some trade and some consumer, so it wasn’t just for us craft people. It was a really worthwhile and informative day! I learnt heaps, and was able to enjoy the day with some friends from the embroiderers guild who had also turned up to learn.
Last weekend I went to Melbourne to teach Sardinian Knotted Embroidery for the Victorian embroiderers guild. I had a great weekend with lovely hosts, and excellent students. I’d love to share some photos with you of my time there, but when I’m teaching I’m too busy teaching to think of taking photos! Thanks again to the guild for hosting me and allowing me to teach for you.
I’m doing a bit of market research that I’d be very grateful if you could help me with it. You can answer here in the blog comments section, or send your answers to me via email or my website contact form: http://www.vettycreations.com.au/contact.html
If you have a copy of any of my books, why did you buy that book/s?
What aspect of the book/s is the most valuable to you?
What do you think I could have done differently?
Would you recommend my books to others? If yes, why? If no, why not?
Thanks so much for your help with this!
Hi Yvette–I bought your Sardinian embroidery book at the Embroiderer’s Guild of America seminar last fall in Phoenix, Arizona. I bought it because it is a type of embroidery I have never tried–in fact, never heard of.
I can’t answer the last two questions because I haven’t looked closely at the book yet, but I hope to stitch something out of it this year.
Thanks Carol! I do hope you enjoy it when you finally get to stitching something from it. And always remember, if you get stuck on anything, you know where to find me. 🙂
Hi Yvette,
I bought you Mountmellick book firstly because of the cover and secondly because I love white on white, knotted embroidery and organic styles. Inviting production and well illustrated and explained instructions are valuable to me.
I have not looked at doing any counted thread embroidery techniques so I cannot comment on your other project books, other than liking how your hardanger book had some projects that moved beyond the white on white. I have recommended your stitch quides to many people and the right handed one is on my wish list.
I hope this is helpful,
Regards Melissa Butterworth
I love the visual clarity if your books. Have a couple of them. I love your love of the work you do.
Thanks Melissa!
Thank you Lynn!
Hi,
I tend to explore an area of embroidery each year and became very interested in whitework techniques – so of course, I became familiar with your name and blog. I wanted to explore the values and textures I could achieve without having colour in the equation.
I was experimenting with Hardanger and got your book because it would help me to develop more complex designs.
For Christmas I requested several books and was very happy to be given your book on Mountmellick – I am collecting the threads and fabric ready to develop my skill in this lovely technique.
Hope this helps
Mary P
I hope that you enjoy your journey into Mountmellick, Mary. Do you know that Vetty Creations stocks a full range of Mountmellick supplies including thread and fabric? You can find everything you need, here: http://www.vettycreations.com.au/catalogue-mountmellick.html
I have all your books. They deal with more unusual techniques, which I’m always on the lookout for, and your instructions are wonderful. I especially appreciate having both photos and diagrams of the same step in the process and that you break the stitching process into small bites.
Thank you BG!
I have all your Books except The Right-Handed Embroiderer’s Companion & The Left-Handed Embroiderer’s Companion. I started to buy your books online after flipping through one of them in a bookshop. It was the “The Elegant Hardanger Embroidery” book which i first came across. You have given the instructions to do the Embroidery the right way.You have shown how the work should look like at the back of the Embroidery. I am very fond of mono-color embroidery especially White on white or cream on cream.
The most valuable aspect of the books are the instructions which were step by step.
I like the fact that you concentrate on Regional Embroidery Techniques.
I would definitely recommend your books because, I believe anyone could follow the instructions and create beautiful embroidery based on your instructions which are concise and clear!
I honestly believe that there is no better book on Mountmellick Embroidery than, Your “Mountmellick Embroidery: Inspired by Nature”!
Not to forget, the Bullion Embroidery book is Sweet. The Sardinian Knotted Thread Embroidery book is LACY. I have given 5 star rated Reviews about your books at Amazon.
As you asked what YOU could have done differently,
I feel that “The Ukranian Drawn Thread Embroidery” book had a very few pages on the whole, Wish there were more Stitches & projects in that technique.. It’s just my opinion.
Thanks Shaz! Much appreciated. 🙂
When are you planning to put out your New book?
Later this year. Sorry, I can’t be more specific than that at the moment!
