To help get you in the mood for our Christmas ornament swap (which will definitely go ahead as we already have a number signed up), I thought that you might like to see some of the ornaments that I have designed and made in the past. If you’d like to join in our Christmas ornament swap, there’s details and you can sign up here.
This is a design I did a few years ago for The Gift of Stitching magazine. It features a band of Hardanger embroidery which is sewn up so that it becomes a pyramid (or maybe technically a tetrahedron, actually).
But the most unusual thing about this design is that the linen has an overlay of organza which gives the whole thing an added sparkle. It adds an extra challenge to the stitching, but is a technique that brings very traditional Hardanger further towards contemporary embroidery.
I have this design available for purchase as a pattern so that you can make your own Organza Hardanger Ornament.

Very nice ornament. I always liked hardanger but have too little time to stitch something bigger using hardanger or merezhka stitches.
Adding the organza is a fascinating idea!
Its something I’ve been experimenting with for a while. There’s a bolster in my Hardanger book that used the technique. And I taught a needlecase at Beating Around the Bush last year that had it. It quite changes the look of the Hardanger.
