Here’s the first full pic that we’ve seen of the whole design in our Mountmellick stitch along. I’ve finished the French knots in the petals, and put in all the stems except the last bit up to the final flower (the bud).
I’m thinking of putting a sparse filling in the petals of the opening flower. Might give that a go next, because I can always take it out if I don’t like it!

Beautiful!! I’m way behind you but still plugging along. I’ll try to take another better picture soon.

Each year I do some graphic design work for BASA (the Botanical Art Society of Australia). The other day, one of the members was over at my house and saw the stitch along project in progress. She thought it was beautiful. It made me again wonder (I have wondered before) whether I should join BASA and submit a stitched plant picture one year in their exhibition! Most of the entries are watercolour and pencil drawings, so a stitched picture might ruffle a few feathers… I don’t quite know if they’d know what to make of it!
So beautiful !
I follow the SAL daily and your comments are so interesting ! Thank you so much !
Félicitations !
I apparently joined your blog after the SAL started. How do I get the pattern and instructions so I can catch up? Also – can you recommend a good website in the US where I can get the cotton jean? Thanks!
You might just convert me to white-on-white one of these days – this is lovely!
Hi Missy,
All the information about the stitch along can be found at http://vettycreations.com.au/white-threads/mountmellick-stitch-along/ where you can purchase the pattern and all the supplies you will need. There are no instructions as such, just the day-by-day posts which tell you the process. If you’re wanting to purchase cotton jean in the US, well that’s a bit more difficult. The only suggestion I have (and she may not have it) is Berlin Embroidery in Canada. It’d be great to have you join us!
Thanks Lou!
We’re working on it…!
Oh! It is looking gorgeous! (You’ll convert me to white on white too!)
I agree about leaving those two side petals (your most recent post) empty as well – looks great as it is. 🙂
