Ackworth School samplers

Inspirations magazine issue 65Just thought I might mention that I have an article on Quaker samplers from the Ackworth School in the latest edition (#65) of Inspirations Magazine. Not that I have seen the eventuating article yet… I asked them to send my copy to me in Sydney, not knowing at the time, how good or bad the mail service is here in Ethiopia. So I’ll get to see it when we get home.

I had so much fun researching this article. If I had all the time in the world, I’d make my own Mary Wigham sampler, but I’ll just have to suffice with enjoying other people’s Marys.

For those who’d like to see a bit more of this type of work, check out:

And of course, I hope you enjoy the article in Inspirations!

Hi, Yvette! I just read your article on the Ackworth School in Inspirations yesterday, as a matter of fact! Tomorrow, I’m blogging about this latest issue – I thought it was GREAT! One of my favorite issues so far! I love the etui on the cover, and all the little (and big) projects inside. They did a super job on this one!

I enjoyed your article – it was perfect with a cup of afternoon tea. Like you, if I had all the time in the world, I’d make my own Mary Wigham. The individual motifs are great, though, and I’ve been working on translating some of them into surface embroidery designs. They lose the Quaker look a bit, but they give more range for stitch choices.

You know, if I ever did stitch Mary Wigham, I’d like to do her sampler in miniature – 45 ct over one thread, that type of thing. Oh boy. I can’t think about that….

Hope you’re doing well and still enjoying your sojourn! I’m really enjoying your blog posts about all your experiences!

    Best,
    Mary
