This morning I happened to be able to access Blogspot blogs (access can be quite intermittent here in Ethiopia, which is why I moved my blog off Blogspot a few weeks ago), and found my way to the blog of Karen Ruane. Karen is a contemporary whitework embroidery artist, and I’m so glad I found her blog!
She uses mostly white threads on (it looks like) white dupion silk. There is a range of stitches and techniques. She uses highlights of colour, but its the texture and pattern of the white stitching on the white fabric that I love.
I found her work incredibly inspiring, and its nice to know there’s someone else out there who is enamoured with white on white as much as I am!
Wonderful stuff, Karen – thank you!
