In this episode of White Threads FlossTube, I show you how to make the covered button that was used on the edge of the needlecase in my upcoming book “Frisian Whitework: Dutch Embroidery from Friesland”. For this style of covered button you do not need a special covered button form. You can just use a carefully chosen regular button to cover.
While I did explain how to do this using just words in White Threads FlossTube #65 which introduced the needlecase, some people are not aural learners, but learn better by seeing. If you’re that person, then this tutorial is particularly for you!

Thanks very much for the demonstration. Your covered button, starting with a button with a concave side, is much nicer than one made from sewing store kits for covered buttons.
Does the new book say where to obtain Dutch heritage fabrics? They’re beautiful.
Hi BG, they’re great buttons, aren’t they? I was so pleased to find the one in my Grandma’s button box and to be able to learn from it.
The book doesn’t have suppliers, mostly because these things can change so easily, particularly in the current economic climate. I have used Google to source Dutch Heritage fabrics (apart from the original ones I found in Amsterdam).
