Another big, exciting announcement today about what I’ll be doing next year! Yesterday, Berrima Patchwork generally released their information for the 2014 Quilting in the Highland Retreat (QITH), from Saturday 26th July to Tuesday 29th July 2014. The information has been out for a few weeks for past participants, but now it is available for everyone.
Next year I will again be teaching two projects. I was going to do two embroidery for applique projects, and had actually worked up two new class projects, but it turned out that people were asking for me to teach Mountmellick again. So we quickly swapped one of them for my most popular Mountmellick design – gotta keep the customers happy!
Pomegranate embroidery Applique Panel with Yvette Stanton
Raw edge appliqué is used to create this panel featuring pomegranates. This design focuses on embroidery filling stitches rather than edging stitches. All shapes are edged with simple blanket stitch, then creative stitching is used to add pattern
and texture to the leaves and fruit. Stitches include palestrina stitch, bullions, French knots, feather stitch and fly stitch.
Mountmellick Embroidery Wildflower Cushion with Yvette Stanton
Mountmellick embroidery is a style of floral whitework embroidery from Ireland. It uses white thread on white fabric and a range of knotted and padded stitches to create rich and sumptuous embroidery. The knitted fringe is a traditional edging. We will be creating a cushion with a pretty design featuring honeysuckle, dogrose, daisy and wheat. All stitches will be taught in class, and a demonstration of the traditional knitted fringe will be given. This class is suitable even for people who have never tried embroidery before – all skill levels are welcome! The embroidery stitches will be learned and the cushion embroidery started in class. Cushion construction and knitting will be done in your own time following the class.
Obviously I won’t be the only teacher at Quilting in the Highlands! There are six other, highly accomplished tutors who will be teaching in their areas of specialty. International tutors: Sandra Leichner, Marti Michell. From Australia: Ruth Bloomfield, Julie Haddrick, Linda Steele, Mariya Waters and ME (Yvette Stanton)!
This year I taught at QITH and had a wonderful time. I was the only “embroidery teacher” there, as all the others were patchwork, quilting and applique teachers (though actually some of them have very highly accomplished embroidery skills too!).
If you’re interested in booking into any of the class, but especially mine (!), please go to the Berrima Patchwork Quilting in the Highlands Retreat website and book in. Classes are booking up (I think some might already be half full!) so get in quick!
