Here’s a picture of my niece’s shadow work lampshade in progress. (I think I’m fairly safe in posting this here, because I don’t think my sister reads my blog, so no cats will be let out of any bags.)
I’m in the process of stretching it onto the frame, and when that’s satisfactorily done (which its not yet!) I will stitch the top and bottom edges to the frame and then cover them over with suitably coloured bias binding. I’m not sure whether to go for blue, green or pink.
I’m having fun making this. Its been much faster than the butterfly curtain because these are much more simple butterfly shapes.
These are lovely, and I think you should say, for the benefit of those who’ve never tried it, covering a lampshade is not as scary as it sounds!
No its not scary at all, but every time I want to do it, I pull out the soft furnishings book that we were given as a wedding present (by someone who really understood what I was interested in!) many years ago, and give myself a little refresher. Its the sort of information that would easily be found at a library or very likely on the internet!
And to think i looked at your stretching over the lampshade and shuddered in fear!
(looking at comments above)
Pink bias binding would be nice. Or is that too traditional? What’s her fav colour of the 3? Or can you get 2 colour bias binding (or make some?) Blue and Pink on the top, and Green and Pink on the bottom, or something.
We went to a school with a pink school uniform, so pink is neither mine nor my sister’s favourite colours…
But two colours could work well. I hadn’t thought of that, thanks. I could do one at the top and another at the bottom as you suggest, or bias binding with piping in a different colour. (Though that sounds like WAY too much effort!)
