About Yvette Stanton
Yvette Stanton is a respected needlework teacher and author of needlework books. She particularly loves whitework and playing with embroidery stitches. Yvette first learned of Guimarães embroidery from an old book in her guild library. On seeing a picture of the work, she said to herself "I have to learn more about that!"
In 2008 Yvette travelled to Guimarães in northern Portugal to research the embroidery. Soon after her return to Australia, she became sick with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, so writing a book on the subject was put on hold. Her slow return to health meant that it was easier physically and mentally to work on a different style of book - with fewer large projects - so her left and right-handed stitch dictionaries were published first. (She returned to complete health during the writing of the "Left-Handed Embroiderer's Companion".) Once those books were done, she was able to return to writing and embroidering for the Portuguese book.
During the process of making the many projects for the book, Yvette became even more enamoured with Portuguese whitework, and now nominates it as her favourite style of needlework. "It is just so elegant, with the crisp white on white, the beautiful base of drawn thread work, and the sumptuous surface of bullion embroidery."
