Mountmellick thread Mountmellick thread is completely matt, that is, it has no shine at all. It is a finely twisted thread made of soft, unmercerised cotton. It can be used for Mountmellick embroidery (as its name suggests) and other whitework embroidery where a matt finish is desired.
