The first one was on <a href=\"http:\/\/vettycreations.com.au\/white-threads\/2010\/03\/02\/tips-for-working-better-bullion-stitch\/\">tips for working better bullion stitch<\/a>, the second was about <a href=\"http:\/\/vettycreations.com.au\/white-threads\/2010\/03\/03\/bullion-stitch-thread-twist-and-wrapping-direction\/\">thread twist and wrapping direction<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Today we will be looking at whether to use a hoop\/frame or not. Some people say that you must never use a hoop or frame when working bullions. Others, like me, very much prefer to use them.<\/p>\n<p>I think this is due to there being two majorly different ways of working bullions. One suits having a hoop, and the other does not.<\/p>\n<p>The most common method uses the needle inserted in the fabric and the thread wrapping round the needle as shown.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/vettycreations.com.au\/white-threads\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/bullion1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/vettycreations.com.au\/white-threads\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/bullion1.jpg\" alt=\"Bullion stitch, most common method\" title=\"bullion1\" width=\"300\" height=\"233\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-409\" srcset=\"http:\/\/vettycreations.com.au\/white-threads\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/bullion1.jpg 300w, http:\/\/vettycreations.com.au\/white-threads\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/bullion1-150x116.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nWith this method it is much easier to manipulate the thread and the needle <b>without<\/b> a hoop.<\/p>\n<p>The method that I use (and teach in my classes and books) was taught to me by Effie Mitrofanis. It uses the needle and thread as shown.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/vettycreations.com.au\/white-threads\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/bullion2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/vettycreations.com.au\/white-threads\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/bullion2.jpg\" alt=\"Bullion stitch, less common method\" title=\"bullion2\" width=\"300\" height=\"234\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-411\" srcset=\"http:\/\/vettycreations.com.au\/white-threads\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/bullion2.jpg 300w, http:\/\/vettycreations.com.au\/white-threads\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/bullion2-150x117.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nThis method is much easier <b>with<\/b> a hoop, as one hand is above, wrapping the thread, and the other is below holding the needle eye. The hoop gives you an extra hand, holding the fabric flat for you, so you don&#8217;t have to worry about it.<\/p>\n<p>So, as you can see, there are definite reasons for using a hoop, or not using a hoop.
