Popular at the Vetty Creations stand

So, what was popular at the Vetty Creations stand at the Sydney Craft and Quilt Show last week? I’ve already mentioned how “hot” Mountmellick embroidery was, with so many people stopping to admire the display and ask what type of embroidery it was. A common refrain was, “is that candlewicking?”

Mountmellick embroidery wildflower […]

Left-handed embroidery book review

Another review of The Left-Handed Embroiderer’s Companion for you today. This one is from Mary Hickmott’s New Stitches. I received my copy of this a while ago, and just yesterday found it again at the bottom of a pile of books, so now I can share it with you.

From the review in the May […]

Nuts about needlepoint – left-handed book review

If you’re into needlepoint then you’ve probably already read this review. That’s because Nuts about Needlepoint is the blog to follow if you’re a needlepointer. It also happens that its author, Janet M. Perry, is left-handed. She kindly agreed to review my book The Left-Handed Embroiderer’s Companion.

Here’s some of what Janet had to say:

Mountmellick stitch along design

Well, I have come up with a design for our Mountmellick embroidery stitch along. It is lilies – I’m in a lilies frame of mind at the moment! I just think lilies can be quite exquisite, and they provide a nice amount of scope for embroidering both petals and leaves. I know its rather obscured […]

experimenting with synthetic gold thread and plaited braid stitch

I did a little experiment yesterday with the Kreinik Japan No 7 thread. I really wanted to see how it would go, in case I decide that I want to use gold thread on my beret. I don’t think real metallic thread would be happy about being rained on.

Kreinik Japan No 7 thread is […]

Left-handed book stockists list up

I’ve now put up a stockists list for “The Left-Handed Embroiderer’s Companion”. It includes Australia, New Zealand, United States and United Kingdom.

It is FAR from exhaustive, so you are welcome to tell me where you bought your copy! And of course, I can add other countries.

If you are a shop who stocks “The […]

Stockists list – The Left-Handed Embroiderer’s Companion

The other day I received a phone call from a left-handed lady in another Australian city who was feeling a little frustrated that she could not find a copy of The Left-Handed Embroiderer’s Companion to purchase locally. I suggested a number of needlework shops to her that I felt sure would stock it. She went […]

surprise purchases

I went along to my local craft, knitting, quilting and needlework shop yesterday. I am very fortunate because I can walk only 15 minutes from my home and be there. I realise that this will make many of you jealous!

I was wanting to look at fabrics to use for my samplers.

I knew that […]

Inspirations magazine articles and review

A new review for “The Left-Handed Embroiderer’s Companion” has appeared on the Country Bumpkin website and in the latest edition of Inspirations magazine.

Here is an excerpt:

Every time a new embroidery book is published, a huge collective sigh of disappointment emerges from that most neglected group of embroiderers; the left-handers. This book should put […]

Royal School of Needlework book of the month

I just found out that “The Left-Handed Embroiderer’s Companion” has been named Book of the Month by the Royal School of Needlework’s shop! Yay!

I’m also after a copy of Mary Hickmott’s New Stitches magazine which apparently has reviewed the book in the latest issue. I emailed New Stitches, and they’re very kindly sending me […]
