Some people go on a book tour when they release a new book. I’ve never done this, but I thought I could instead take you on a tour of some of my books. I know that some of you have been along for the ride since the beginning but some of you are newer to […]

French translation of Portuguese Whitework book

While I was away in New Zealand, a parcel turned up on my doorstep. It was a little unexpected, though not totally. It contained copies of my first foreign language publication: “La Broderie Blanche Portugaise”.

When I was in Paris at the beginning of the year, I met with the general manager of Les […]

This morning I’m off to Queensland for classes in Yeppoon and Gladstone. I’ll be teaching Portuguese whitework (we’re doing the Square Mat from “Portuguese Whitework”) and merezhka (we’ll be making the Climbing Rose Runner from “Ukrainian Drawn Thread Embroidery”).

I’m looking forward to meeting new people, sharing a love of embroidery with them, enjoying […]

A Portuguese Whitework weekend in Parkes

On Friday afternoon, I headed west on the train to Lithgow, then changed to a coach service to take me out to Parkes in Central West NSW. It was a journey of about 7 hours, but it was quite relaxing. I really should have taken a little personal light with me so that I could […]

Customer embroidery: Portuguese Whitework ornaments

I received a lovely email from a customer, Jane, the other day.

“A few months ago I re-ordered 3 of your books that I lost when a flood hit Dungog. Well, I lost a lot of things but one of the things that I gave to a friend before we went under, was the 38 […]

Portuguese and Sardinian books

I received an email from Elizabeth in NY this week:

“I came across your work on Mary Corbet’s NeedlenThread, when she reviewed your books on first Portuguese and then Sardinian embroidery. They had been tempting me for a long time, and I finally purchased them. I am so glad I did! You are marvelous at […]

Embroiderers Guild NSW exhibition

On Friday I went to the opening of the exhibition of the NSW Embroiderers Guild. It was an excellent exhibition, with an extremely wide range of embroideries on display.

The exhibition was opened by Claudia Chan Shaw, author of “Collectomania” and previous presenter on ABC’s “Collectors” TV show. Claudia was an excellent choice for speaker […]
