White Threads

Designed by me, stitched by others

Yesterday I received a message from my US distributor with a link to a Facebook group. In that group a member, Arlene, had posted a photo of the Portuguese Whitework sampler from my book Portuguese Whitework: Bullion Embroidery from Guimarães. Arlene has done a magnificent job, and I was pleased to congratulate her on her […]

Off to Morpeth

Today I’m heading off on a train to Morpeth in the Hunter Valley, to teach a Portuguese Whitework class. I’m sure we’ll have a lovely day together.

Since getting back from the cruise, I’ve caught up on all the orders, and have even cleaned up my desk. (I needed to make room to fit my […]

Canberra class

Last weekend I spend the weekend in Canberra with a lovely group of women, teaching a Portuguese Whitework class for the ACT embroiderers’ guild. They were a delightful group of women, and highly accomplished stitchers. They made excellent progress with their hand towels, and worked to a very high standard. Thank you to everyone who […]

Student success

Yesterday I received a photo from Ruth, who was one of the students in my classes on the needlework cruise that I taught on in February this year. Ruth took my Mountmellick class and my Portuguese Whitework Panel class.

From the photo (which Ruth has given permission for me to share), you can see […]

Wollongong class today

Today I’m of to Wollongong to teach Portuguese Whitework to the guild group there. I’m sure we will have a lovely day sharing stitching and each other’s company.

We’ll be making the hanging ornaments from my book “Portuguese Whitework”. Not all five though – just one each!

I have some stitching with me to do […]

Singleton Embroiderers Guild group

On Tuesday and Wednesday Singleton Embroiderers Guild group welcomed me back to teach Portuguese Whitework. A couple of years ago I did a Mountmellick workshop with them, which they greatly enjoyed. It was lovely to see several of the completed projects which they proudly brought along to show me! Our Portuguese Whitework class got off […]

the ideal scissors for cutwork

When I teach Hardanger and Portuguese Whitework I take my embroidery scissors around the class with me as I teach and demonstrate. Often students will discover that their embroidery scissors are just not up to the job of careful cutting threads next to stitching. They may be too big and chunky, or they may be […]

A weekend in Victoria

Last night I came back from a lovely weekend away, teaching the Mornington Peninsula group of the Victorian embroiderers guild and a group of embroiderers at the headquarters of the Victorian guild. Both groups did Portuguese Whitework classes, but different projects.

The classes went very well, with some excellent quality stitching in evidence. They were […]

Final part of cruise travelogue

The last two days of classes were Portuguese whitework classes for me. Each day I was teaching two single day classes concurrently. Because the projects were so similar for me, it was not too hard to do, though other teachers had a harder time because their two single day projects were very different to each […]

Upcoming classes in Sydney

In the next couple of months I’ll be teaching some classes here in Sydney. I’d love you to join me for either of these classes!

Up first is a class at Mosman Needlecraft on 9th and 10th March. I’ll be teaching the Portuguese Whitework handtowel from my book. If you’d like to participate in this […]
