Last year here at White Threads I organised a Christmas ornament exchange. I have been wondering about whether to run it again, as I’m not sure it was entirely successful last year. I just wasn’t sure that everyone received their ornaments. However, no-one let me know that they *didn’t* receive the one that was promised [...] With the Emmys on yesterday, there’s lots of pictures of beautiful red carpet gowns around the place today. But Christina Hendricks’ gown was interesting in that it featured amazing hand beading. It was made here in Sydney by an Australian designer, Johanna Johnson. I had nothing to say and a lot to do! I spent the weekend away with some of the women from my church and we had a lovely time together. I took my embroidery with me, and finished off the cushion front for the Portuguese [...] When we came back from our sojourn at the Gold Coast, I went looking for my sewing (dressmaking) scissors and could not find them anywhere. I looked all over my computer desk but they weren’t there. I looked all over my other desk but they weren’t there either. They weren’t in the lounge room or [...] Well, they loved our samples. Loved them. (I did too!) But… unfortunately the props lady had rather underestimated the time that each item might take, and our samples took them way over budget. Oh dear. I guess if you think that something’s going to take an hour or two, and it ends up taking more [...] I used cotton floche for the first time yesterday. I bought a hank of cotton floche a few years back when I was at AllThreads Embroidery, teaching. It was the first time I’d ever seen it in the flesh, though I had heard of it before. I knew it was pretty hard to come [...] Last night I received a phone call from someone working on an upcoming dramatic production who needs several identical items, (a “key prop”) embroidered. She couldn’t say what it was for – she could be immediately dismissed from her post – but I have an idea or two. I don’t usually do commissions, but there [...] I’m back! We had a lovely week away staying with friends on the Gold Coast. It was warm, sunny and lovely up there. Being about 800km away, we took two days to drive there and back.
