Yesterday I took some photos of The Tablecloth for the Portuguese Whitework book. (If you’re wondering why I’m calling it The Tablecloth you’ll need to read older posts to learn how it seemed to go on forever and ever!) I got some photos that I am very happy with, however I’m thinking that I’d like [...] I called my favourite local needlework shop yesterday to check whether they had the balls of DMC pearl cotton that I wanted. As they did, and it was a rainy day I decided to catch bus to the train station, rather than walking. I checked the bus timetable, and found that the bus would be [...] Yesterday I got stuck into the last projects for the book – a set of hanging ornaments. I had some different colours to use, some of which were DMC and some were Presencia threads. Both were pearl 8. The difference was quite pronounced. DMC is marginally thinner, and much more smooth. Presencia is marginally thicker [...] I know, this is getting a bit repetitive, isn’t it? I finished another hem yesterday, and still have another one to go. I’ll probably try to get it done today. The remaining one is just going to be a machine sewn hem, so it won’t take so long. It will still need its corners neatly [...] Yesterday I finally completed a little square mat that’s been hanging around for ages. If you have been to any of my Portuguese Whitework classes or saw me at the Sydney Craft and Quilt show back in June, you’ll have seen it without a hem. Well, now it finally has a hem! I mitred the [...] Yesterday I finally got started on my handtowel project for “Portuguese Whitework”. I suddenly decided that I wanted some suggestions from people on the size that people like their handtowels to be. I’ve previously done handtowels at about 40 x 50cm (16 x 20in), but wanted to know if people liked that size or something [...] It took less than 24 hours from go to whoa! The latest project for my book “Portuguese Whitework” is now complete; even the instructions are written. I must say that I very much like these quick projects! Compared to nearly two years of *that* tablecloth, less than 24 hours is the way I like it! [...] I feel like a lot of my dreaming time was filled with making bullions last night. Perhaps that reflects how many I have done recently? It reminds me of the nightmare I had when I sent my stitch dictionary off to the printers. I think that my day job is invading my sleep too much! [...] Last week I started a new project for the book: a sampler featuring 36 different bullion motifs. It is SO much fun! 36 different motifs – there’s never a dull moment! I am enjoying the fact that after spending months working on a tablecloth that had two main motifs worked millions of times over (ok, [...] I spent the last few days madly working on my new project for the book. It is a sampler which will have a large number of bullion stitch motifs on it. It will be an excellent reference piece because of all the different motifs featured on it.
