Teach yourself Hardanger embroidery

Thank you to all those who have commented on my idea for a beginners Hardanger booklet. It has been interesting reading why you think it would be helpful to you – such as that you’d like to use a booklet like that while travelling. This makes me think that you’d like it in a smallish [...]

Beginners hardanger booklet?

With my recent Hardanger class for beginners, I wrote extensive step-by-step notes as a handout for the students, so they could take reference home with them, to refer to. One of the students in the class said to me a couple of times “No, don’t show me. I’ll see if I can do it from [...]

books and inspiration

I was talking with the ladies in my beginner’s Hardanger class yesterday about my “depressing” list of books that I have to find time to write. (Its only depressing because it will take me 7-14 years to get through them all!) They wanted to know if any of them were Hardanger. I think there was [...]

Popular at the Vetty Creations stand

So, what was popular at the Vetty Creations stand at the Sydney Craft and Quilt Show last week? I’ve already mentioned how “hot” Mountmellick embroidery was, with so many people stopping to admire the display and ask what type of embroidery it was. A common refrain was, “is that candlewicking?”

The show is finished…

The show finished last night at 5pm, and my husband and I had packed up and were out of there by 6:30pm. Home to my kiddies and all the things that have been put on hold for the week.

Tomorrow I’ll be starting to teach a beginner’s Hardanger class (project picture below) for The Crewel [...]

Hardanger bookmark finishing technique

I mentioned in my previous post about my Hardanger bookmark that I had used a new finishing idea for it, that I’d thought up in a lucid moment.

Rachel of Virtuosew Adventures asked if I would tell about the technique. Well, its nothing revolutionary, it was just something I hadn’t tried before!

I had planned [...]

finished Hardanger bookmark

Here’s the finished Hardanger embroidery bookmark. This is a thank you gift for Gillian, giver of the beautiful Turkish scarf.I used a new type of finishing for it, that I thought up in a lucid moment the other day, and was pretty pleased with the result.

I’m not entirely happy with the fact that the [...]

a suitable thank you

I have been working on a thank you gift for Gillian, who presented me with the beautiful scarf from Turkey.

I’ve decided that a suitable gift is a bookmark, with Hardanger embroidery worked on it. I have no idea if she has any interest in embroidery, therefore if it is a bookmark, she can choose [...]

Beating Around the Bush 2012

This week I received an email inviting me to teach at Country Bumpkin’s needlework conference “Beating Around the Bush” in April 2012 in Adelaide, Australia. I was thrilled to be invited back, as I loved my time teaching there last year.

Only the earliest of details about the conference have been announced yet, but you [...]
