the misses stewart

I recently heard about an exhibition that is on at The Hawkesbury Regional Museum at Windsor in NSW. Its called The Misses Stewart: seamstresses of the Hawkesbury, and is a display of the work of two sisters’ textile work. Myra and Ivy Stewart lived in the Hawkesbury region from the late 1800s until the 1970s.

Royal Easter Show

I had been planning on entering my Portuguese Whitework tablecloth in the Arts and Crafts section of next year’s Sydney Royal Easter Show. It is the embroidery that I have been most proud of in a very long time, and therefore wanted to show it off and see how it went in open competition.

The […]

latest Embellish magazine

I got the latest copy of Embellish magazine the other day. Remember that a little while back I told you about a lace exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum? Embellish has a great article in it on the third international Lace Award and Exhibition, Love Lace.

There are two full spreads of photos of entries in […]

exhibitions anyone?

I’ve told you a bit about some exhibitions in my corner of the world over the last little while. However I am acutely aware that I am in a corner(!) and that many of you are very far flung from me.

So I was wondering if any of you have any interesting exhibitions of an […]

pre-raphaelite exhibition

Yesterday we went with friends to the Pre-Raphaelite exhibition The Poetry of Drawing at The Art Gallery of NSW. It was fantastic! There was an excellent range of exquisite drawings, watercolours etc.

For the William Morris-ophiles, there was a good selection of his works, including a drawing that looked quite stilted and amateurish compared to […]

love lace exhibition

Another great exhibition on in Sydney! From 30th July until April next year, the fabulous Powerhouse Museum will be hosting a lace exhibition entitled Love Lace.

It will feature 130 lace works by 134 artists from 20 countries. Wow! And there will be a huge range of lace making techniques on display from the highly […]

drawing exhibition

If you’re anything like me, you’ll possibly agree that William Morris is a hero. I have always admired the talents of the man, who was jack of all trades, and master of all of them! His work is amazingly beautiful, and I always find it inspiring.

I recently learned that the Art Gallery of NSW […]

the carnival is over

Well, the Sydney Craft and Quilt Fair for 2011 is done and dusted! We had a great time. I really enjoyed meeting so many wonderful customers and spending the five days with Janie and Belinda. It was lots of fun and especially over the final few days (as we were getting more and more deliriously […]

Cottage garden delights

Yesterday I spent my demonstrating sessions at the show working on a Hardanger embroidery. I had bought some Cottage Garden Threads the day before, and was eager to try them out. I was a bit disappointed that the perle threads don’t come in perle 5, so I bought stranded cotton instead. Who says you can’t […]

new book excitement

Yesterday at the show was a great success, despite the fact that I started off with a big boo-boo! I left my name badge at home. Oh dear. Fortunately in amongst my stuff at the show, I had my badge from last year, and they’re exactly the same this year. So once they’d verified that […]
