Exploring the needlework internet this week

I missed this post last week, seeing “normal programming” was slightly interrupted! Because of that, there’s lots today. Just keep in mind that I don’t actually go looking for these links – they’re just things I stumble across as I go about my daily business on the internet.

One of the Facebook pages I am […]

Rahul Mishra embroidered clothing on display in Armidale

Some time last year my mother tipped me off about an Indian fashion designer named Rahul Mishra. He had just won the International Woolmark Prize, an award that focuses on wool in fashion. Mishra had submitted a collection of clothing for the award that featured beautiful hand embroidery in wool. I spent hours drooling over […]

Exploring the needlework internet this week

In my travels around the web I’ve seen more things this week that might also interest you. Please note, for the sake of those who think that I spend my time looking for interesting links for you, these are just things I’ve come across in my daily needlework life. They’re things that have cropped up […]

Exquisite Threads exhibition

Coming soon to the National Gallery of Victoria is a new exhibition called Exquisite Threads: English Embroidery 1600s–1900s. It’s looking like it’s going to be a cracker of an exhibition. I might just have to somehow get myself to Melbourne and take a look.

If you head to the NGV page about the exhibition, there […]

Embroidered Ukrainian blouse display

On Sunday 30th November, there will be a fashion parade of Ukrainian blouses from various parts of Ukraine in Sydney. I very much hope to go, seeing I have an interest in Ukrainian embroidery since writing my book Ukrainian Drawn Thread Embroidery: Merezhka Poltavska.

A commentary on the history of the Ukrainian blouse and […]

Embroiderers Guild NSW exhibition

On Friday I went to the opening of the exhibition of the NSW Embroiderers Guild. It was an excellent exhibition, with an extremely wide range of embroideries on display.

The exhibition was opened by Claudia Chan Shaw, author of “Collectomania” and previous presenter on ABC’s “Collectors” TV show. Claudia was an excellent choice for speaker […]

Tiny, tiny, tiny embroidery

When I was in Adelaide, I visited the Silk Legacy exhibition, featuring beautiful Chinese embroidery by Margaret Lee, and embroidery worked in the Chinese style under the tutelage of Margaret Lee. There were also a number of antique pieces from guild collections around Australia.

One of the pieces I was particularly struck by (there were […]

Back from BATB

I had a great few days in Adelaide, attending Beating Around the Bush. I arrived on the Tuesday afternoon and set up my stand for the market day. I had shipped across two boxes of books and took a suitcase full of other stock, and samples to display on the wall. It meant that my […]

Beating Around the Bush

I will be away from tomorrow (Tuesday) until Saturday, at Beating Around the Bush needlework conference in Adelaide. I will not be able to attend to any orders or enquiries during this time. I will get to them on my return. I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Launching my book at […]
