I read an article in the Sydney Morning Herald this morning about hobbies in Australia. Through a very inexact set of percentages, it seems that a good number of Australians take part in textile crafts. Let’s look at those numbers: Australia’s population is about 21 or 22 million. 27% of the population over 15 years [...] For the record, I do not do any embroidery commissions. I just generally don’t have time to do my own work AND some else’s. (Unless you’re working for Baz Luhrmann and he needs a prop for his latest movie – then I will MAKE time to fit it in. [...] Yesterday I met some a couple who work in prisons on a Pacific island, helping to rehabilitate the male and female prisoners (different prisons) so that they can go back to their communities on release, and start afresh. Their work is having great results, which is an encouraging thing to hear. I learned that the [...] I spent yesterday almost entirely working on a Mountmellick project for The Cruise (of which I cannot yet tell you any more). It was quite lovely to spend the day doing that. It feels like quite some time since I have done a new Mountmellick project! Its been lovely to be playing with stitch combinations [...] On Friday I received my copy of the latest issue of “Inspirations” magazine. In it I have a new Hardanger project published. The project was a collaboration between me and Janie Hubble. I checked the bus timetable, and found that the bus would be [...] Yesterday I got stuck into the last projects for the book – a set of hanging ornaments. I had some different colours to use, some of which were DMC and some were Presencia threads. Both were pearl 8. The difference was quite pronounced. DMC is marginally thinner, and much more smooth. Presencia is marginally thicker [...] I spent some time on the weekend taking more photographs of embroideries for “Portuguese Whitework”. I took delivery of the cupcakes I had ordered from a friend so that I could use them as props for one of my photos.
