I had a great time taking photos yesterday. The photo of the handtowel was an absolute gift, with it all coming together easily and quickly. I’d borrowed some props from my sister, and with some rummaging through my own cupboards, came up with a really nice arrangement very quickly. I wrote my instructions and did [...] Last night it was very hot here – the minimum was 27 degrees Celcius (about 81 degrees Fahrenheit)! When it is hot, I tend to have weird dreams. Last night was no exception. I dreamt that I had cut a reasonably large section from the edge of the tablecloth that I recently completed for my [...] A friend commented the other day that she would find it very difficult to actually *use* embroidered items like my tablecloth or handtowel, because she’d be too worried that they would be damaged. Let’s clear up a possible misconception here: I don’t use most of them either! If you walked into my house and [...] Yesterday I finally got started on my handtowel project for “Portuguese Whitework”. I suddenly decided that I wanted some suggestions from people on the size that people like their handtowels to be. I’ve previously done handtowels at about 40 x 50cm (16 x 20in), but wanted to know if people liked that size or something [...] It took less than 24 hours from go to whoa! The latest project for my book “Portuguese Whitework” is now complete; even the instructions are written. I must say that I very much like these quick projects! Compared to nearly two years of *that* tablecloth, less than 24 hours is the way I like it! [...] I feel like a lot of my dreaming time was filled with making bullions last night. Perhaps that reflects how many I have done recently? It reminds me of the nightmare I had when I sent my stitch dictionary off to the printers. I think that my day job is invading my sleep too much! [...] I’m getting to this a bit later than usual this morning, because I desperately wanted to finish off my latest Portuguese Whitework project for the book first. And I just finished it! I think it took less than two weeks, which is quite remarkable. I didn’t get much else done during that time though! Anyway, [...] I had an interesting conversation the other day about recommended expertise levels for classes. The lady I was talking to had recently done a class with a very talented teacher, who requires very exacting technique. After struggling through the class, she realised that she was probably not experienced enough to do the class. Often [...] Last week I started a new project for the book: a sampler featuring 36 different bullion motifs. It is SO much fun! 36 different motifs – there’s never a dull moment! I am enjoying the fact that after spending months working on a tablecloth that had two main motifs worked millions of times over (ok, [...] I had been planning on entering my Portuguese Whitework tablecloth in the Arts and Crafts section of next year’s Sydney Royal Easter Show. It is the embroidery that I have been most proud of in a very long time, and therefore wanted to show it off and see how it went in open competition. The [...] |
