The second class that I will be teaching at Beating Around the Bush is a Portuguese Whitework Handtowel. We went to see Opera Australia’s production of The Magic Flute at the Sydney Opera House. It was amazing! As you can expect, apart from the opera itself, I was transfixed by the costumes. Wow! Full of colour, shapes [...] Over the next few days I have to get stuck into some class proposals. I’ve had a few letters over the past months asking for class proposals, but just haven’t had the chance to do anything about them. Thankfully the submission dates have not yet passed. These are for classes into 2013, which seemed such [...] I occasionally get phone calls from people who would like to join any embroidery classes that I am teaching. As it happens, teaching embroidery is not my core business (writing embroidery books is) and I do not teach any regular classes. (I do teach irregularly scheduled embroidery workshops, however these are in particular techniques, and [...] I’m getting to this a bit later than usual this morning, because I desperately wanted to finish off my latest Portuguese Whitework project for the book first. And I just finished it! I think it took less than two weeks, which is quite remarkable. I didn’t get much else done during that time though! Anyway, [...] I had an interesting conversation the other day about recommended expertise levels for classes. The lady I was talking to had recently done a class with a very talented teacher, who requires very exacting technique. After struggling through the class, she realised that she was probably not experienced enough to do the class. Often [...] On Friday I went back to Lake Macquarie Embroiderers’ Guild Group for the second day of their Mountmellick workshop. We had a fantastic time. My previous day with them had been over a month before, and they had all made amazing progress in the intervening time. I don’t think I have ever been quite so [...] We had a wonderful day in class yesterday, exploring Mountmellick stitches. I don’t think the students had realised there were quite that many variations on some of the stitches we worked! During the day, Natasha from The Snow Queen’s Garden dropped in to visit Mary-Anne, and we got to see some of her gorgeous hand-embroidered [...] Today I’m in Hobart, ready to start a Mountmellick class at A Stitch in Time. I met Mary-Anne, the owner, for the first time yesterday and she is lovely. This will be a fun few days, I’m sure. When I was at Springwood on Monday we were discussing my unusual and difficult stitches class that [...] I’m back home again today, for a very short while before heading off to Hobart tomorrow for a Mountmellick class on Thursday and Friday. Yesterday’s class went very well, up at Springwood. It is lovely to introduce a new style of embroidery to people and have them “get” it. The ladies really enjoyed themselves. I [...] |
