Yesterday I spent some time fiddling around with a cushion design. I design on computer, placing motifs and elements on a grid which represents the fabric. This means I can move things around easily, try things out, and get a good visual idea of how things are working. I went through a few different possibilities [...] Yesterday I spent my demonstrating sessions at the show working on a Hardanger embroidery. I had bought some Cottage Garden Threads the day before, and was eager to try them out. I was a bit disappointed that the perle threads don’t come in perle 5, so I bought stranded cotton instead. Who says you can’t [...] I am going to be an *awful* tease today. On Friday afternoon I designed a highly possible cover for my new Portuguese whitework book. I need the cover for publicity purposes for the Sydney Craft and Quilt Show in a few weeks time. But its too early to show you here, as I don’t even [...] You’ll be pleased to know that I didn’t get any turmeric or berbere (bright red spice mix with paprika and chilli type colouring) on my tablecloth yesterday. In fact I didn’t get any embroidery on it either! I did some planning for the surface embroidery – worked out the beginnings of a chart for it [...] As you may know, I have been regularly contributing to Embellish Magazine, which is a young magazine primarily about the embellishment of fabric and clothing. I have been asked to provide an embroidery project for each issue. Sometimes they send me the clothes to work on, and sometimes I provide something. The issue I am [...] I’d really love to have a prospective cover for my upcoming book “Portuguese Whitework” on show at the Sydney Craft Show in June. That means that I need to get onto it now. I called the distributor of the thread and unfortunately they said they don’t have a colour card. They emailed me a file which has a basically useless chart showing little photographic “swatches” of colour stripes that you’re supposed to choose colours from. I’ve been enjoying planning and shopping for fabrics for those clothes. I’ve been enjoying designing and creating new embroideries for my new Portuguese whitework book and upcoming classes.
