Recently I received a lovely email from Marjolein in the Netherlands. Marjolein was wanting to share some pictures with me, of a hardanger needlecase that she has made, featuring one of the projects from my book Elegant Hardanger Embroidery. She told us that she and the ICA group that she is part of, are currently learning Mountmellick embroidery in Ireland. I was so interested that I asked her to share some more with me and all you lovely [...] When I put out the call for people who might like to share some of their embroidery with us, this week while I am at The Big Craft Show, Jeanine of Italian Needlework excitedly wrote to me about a colleague of hers, Anna Castagnetti. Following is what Jeanine told me about the wonderfully talented Anna:
This year, the Queensland Country Womens Association (QCWA) has the Republic of Ireland as their country of focus. To celebrate this, and to help them learn more about the country, they do a soft-craft and a hard-craft. I don’t know what they have been doing as their hard-craft, but their soft-craft has been Mountmellick embroidery [...] With the Big Craft Show coming up next week (yes, I am exhibiting at the Sydney Craft and Quilt Fair, Stand G32, sharing with The Gift Of Stitching Magazine), I won’t have any extra brain space with which to be writing blog posts. So I was wondering if there are any of you lovely readers [...] Today I had a lovely email conversation with one of my customers. She told me why she had decided to purchase two books: Ukrainian Drawn Thread Embroidery and Mountmellick Embroidery: Inspired by Nature. I heard about you from a lady at my hairdressers. We have had the same appointment time for several months and chat [...] I received a lovely email this week: I am an avid fan of yours! I had started embroidering again after my three sons left home four years ago and had strong interests in learning Hardanger, stumpwork and goldwork. I do most of my learning and sourcing out good learning books via the net. So I was [...] I recently received a lovely email from a customer, who gave me permission to share it with you. My Aunt and Uncle were visiting from Sydney and my mother brought them to stay at our home. My mother is an extremely talented knitter, sewer, candlewicker and general crafts woman and was intrigued by the Embroidery [...] The Waterlily Hardanger Stitch Along has started in my hardanger Yahoo group. Diane has posted some progress of her work so far. She is working in golden yellow thread on blue fabric – what a sunny combination! You’re making great progress, Diane. We went away to Canberra (Australia’s capital city) for a few days, and then I’ve been getting stuck into more embroidery for the book since my return.
